Challenge Sponsorship Fundraising

Just because you are a solo traveller it doesn’t mean your opportunity to see the world is limited in any way. In fact, by volunteering to raise essential funds for a registered charity you will open the door on the opportunity to meet new people, explore places you may have previously dreamt about visiting and you will do a good deed too.

It’s a Small World

When it comes to travelling, whilst supporting a charity, the world really is your oyster. Whatever kind of trip you can think of – trekking through the scenic mountains of Peru, scaling the heights of China’s Great Wall or cycling your way round Cuba – there will be something that fits the bill. These trips can be as short as a three-day break or as long as 21 days or more. The only requirement is that you are fit enough to complete the physical challenge and are able to raise the required amount of sponsor money for the charity.

How do Fundraising Trips Work?

There are two ways of fundraising, in exchange for a break or activity holiday. You can raise the minimum amount of money – usually around £2,000 for a long-haul challenge/activity – and pay the balance yourself, or you can pay a non-refundable registration fee and raise the remainder of the cost of the trip through sponsorship. Whichever option you decide to take you will be given support from the Fundraising Team at your chosen charity. Most major charities organise challenging trips so there is a wide variety of breaks to choose from.

Raising Sponsorship

Although your friends and family may initially protest that they are giving you money to fund your dream holiday, once they realise how challenging your trip will be they will most probably decide to help you raise the necessary cash. Your chosen charity will supply you with a Fundraising Pack and ideas for hosting events etc. Not only will you be raising necessary funds for a worthy charity but you will also be widening your circle of friends, as you approach new people for donations. You will also be encouraged to swap fundraising ideas with fellow fundraising volunteers who you will be meeting on your trip, which is also another good way of getting to know like-minded people.

Do You Have What it Takes?

Besides raising funds you will be expected to be fit enough to complete your challenge – whether that is 50 miles cycling or a 6 hour mountain trek each day. Ensuring you are fit and well enough to embark on the gruelling training programme will show you have the necessary level of commitment to your chosen charity. You will have a number of months to increase your fitness level, and will also be given tips to improve your performance.

The Experience of a Lifetime

Once you have raised the required amount of sponsorship money and have increased your fitness, in preparation for your physical challenge, you will be ready to experience the trip of a lifetime. You will probably be travelling with a group of 20-50 people who will share your experiences and will also become trusted friends. You may find yourself having to share accommodation – perhaps a tent on a windy landscape – and life stories with these strangers, but you will take home far more than just scenic photographs.
