Road Trip Solo Traveller Destination

Planning a solo road trip can be exciting, challenging and fulfilling. Ultimately though it is also an adventure. Being fully aware of the amount of time you will be travelling, as well as the level of solitude that is on offer, will ensure your solo travel experience on the road creates many happy memories.

The Advantages Of Road Travel

As a solo traveller, on a road trip, you get to choose the music you listen to as you drive towards your destination. Thinking out loud is encouraged as you will be exploring ways to keep your mind occupied whilst travelling, and when making stops to refuel and recharge. As a solo traveller you also get to decide how much planning and routing you wish to do, and this can greatly impact on your enjoyment of the entire road trip and can make all the difference to the type of adventure it becomes. A flexible itinerary provides far more opportunity to explore than a strict start to finish planned journey, and is therefore a good idea to consider for first-time solo travellers.

A road trip for one also gives you an opportunity to break your personal rules. Travelling on your own provides many opportunities to remove everyday restrictions, and this can be something as simple as the type of clothes you decide to travel in, the music you choose to enjoy on the road or the way in which you ditch your controlled thinking to accommodate more spontaneous plans.

The Disadvantages of Road Travel

Without proper planning your road trip can easily become over-long and tiresome. Plan a personal road trip profile so that you are fully aware of what you wish to achieve from this type of solo travelling experience, and also what you would like to enjoy on route to your destination.

Making a long journey on your own requires a certain amount of patience with yourself, other drivers and the amount of time it will take you to get from A to B. If you do not enjoy long stretches of your own company you may find the amount of time you have on your own difficult to endure. Learning to appreciate the quality and quantity of thinking space will enable you to enjoy the solitude of the open road, as a solo traveller.

Road Safety

It is a good idea to establish some sort of check-in plan with friends or family you may be visiting, or who may be back at home. Installing an ICE – In Case Of Emergency – number in your mobile phone is recommended, as too is carrying a list of personal contact numbers in your car. Having access to roadside emergency response is also important.

Most important of all, however, is paying attention to your own personal radar, particularly if driving at night. Your intuition will warn you of potential danger but you must be alert to listening to it and trusting the signs it gives you. Using your personal safety rules at all times will ensure your solo road trip is an enjoyable experience.
